Taygetis mermeria
Morphology:
Wings. FW length 44-53mm (males); 54-58mm (females). Distinguished by the large size, gray upperside, and the acute FW apex. The underside coloration is variable (DeVries, 1987). Subspecies griseomarginata, as hinted by the name, is distinguished by the broadly grey dusted margins and also by somewhat stubbier valvae (genitalia) than excavata (Miller, 1978).
Associations:
Guadua paniculata (13 records from ACG; Janzen & Hallwachs, 2009) and G. angustifolia (Murray, 2001).
Distribution:
Throughout the tropics from Mexico to Brazil and Bolivia (DeVries, 1987; Murray, 2001).
